The CTX S762A was one of the under-performing monitors from this roundup, with scores that either equalled or were a little less than the yardstick CMV monitor’s.
Its strength was in colour tracking, and it was as good in most other colour tests, aside from a slightly over-bright dark black level which shouldn’t affect viewing too much.
The S762A suffered from lacking contrast and brightness, which all translated into slightly blurred text, particularly when the font size dropped, and due strictly to the contrasting issue, plus some problems with gaming.
In the real-world tests, DVD and movie playback were fine, but the screen’s narrowish horizontal viewing angle meant you needed to be situated front and centre to get the best from the display.
With the S762A it’s a case of the price and the pixel warranty coming to the rescue. The screen boasted a pleasant black and silver design with a small bezel and an intuitive OSD system for fine-tuning, and at $729 with a great replacement policy it’s easy to see why this monitor represented great value for money.
Pity about the performance though.
