Marketed clearly towards the gamer and entertainment user, this unit is not that different the CMV CT-722A (October 2003, page 59) both with a single D-Sub input and a excellent 16 millisecond pixel response time.
One of the few major differences between the two units is the slightly raised contrast ratio of 500:1, up from 450:1, providing a brighter and clearer view. The attractive silver-finished adjustable base fits modern aluminium brushed desktop towers while the updated warranty type rounds off the package. This is the first time CMV has extended its warranty to three years of replacement on dead pixels. That's right, any pixel, any location, three years. Impressive.
The CMV CT-723A has brilliant viewing angles -- great if you're not sitting dead straight on. The base feels sturdy, but this comes with a lack of swivel capability -- not such a turn off given the wide angle viewing –- and it was sightly difficult to raise and lower single-handed.
Running through our usual benchmarks, it scored well in the colour display and contrast testing, due largely to its 450:1 and 500:1 ratings. The monitor features three preset modes: PCT, Text, ECO toggleable via the easy to use On Screen Display (OSD) with the text mode helping readability of small scale fonts by slightly lowering the backlight brightness. This is great for night usage without ambient lighting to soften display glare.
Despite minor drawbacks, this is a solid all-round monitor with enough grunt to satisfy the power users. It has incredible brightness and great response at a reasonable price.
