The absolute epitome of 'feature-packed', the number of inclusions on this unit floored us. Its whopping 162 point feature score is over one-and-a-half times the average point score and comes on the back of its big feature line up. A single rear-mounted 10/100 Ethernet port will allow you to use this MFD on a wired network, sharing it with numerous other machines. Also included is IEEE 802.11b wireless network connectivity that includes compliance and compatibility with the now ratified 802.11g standard.
Physically similar to the HP PSC 2410 all-in-one, its little brother, it boasts a 2.5in adjustable LCD which displays print progress while you wait. While in standby, this displays animated tutorial images.
The attractive silver and navy finish on the unit casts off the beige and boring stigma that has surrounded desktop publishing for so long. Definitely not out of place in the modern computing and office environment, it's not the largest form factored multi function device to be reviewed, so you will retain more desktop space than with the larger Lexmark X6150 unit.
The HP software supplied with the unit is reasonably easy to use, although the software install quotes 15 to 45 minutes install time depending on the system, our software install took 15 minutes on our Athlon 64 3200+ test bed with half a gigabyte of PC3200.
Front accessible removable memory card access is handy, giving you input for six different types covering everything from Memory stick and its two offshoots, Duo and Pro to the less known xD-Picture Cards found in Olympus digital cameras.
Its high resolution 1,200dpi scanner scanned on par with the other MFDs for speed while it produced brilliant skintone reproductions and printed only marginally less wonderfully in the highest resolution colour scale testing.
Missing out on being one of this month's Labs Winners only narrowly, the PSC 2510 is packed with features for small to mid office and combines an easy to use interface with enough advanced options to be the perfect partner for professionals, serious amateurs and first time users alike.
