Sanyo's PLC-SW30 is the only projector in this round-up to break the $2,000 barrier, and we’re happy to say it's not a bad unit at all. Scoring perfectly for fine focus and resolution sharpness (particularly in the corners), the unit went on to display perfect dark black levels, as well as admirable colour tests.
In the real world tests it was great with DVD, not so good for gaming, but excellent for data. A problem was that with the lens almost flush with the fascia it's hard not to get partial fingerprints on the lens when you’re fiddling with the focus ring.
With its performance and good price the PLC-SW30 should have scored well, but it was hampered by a limiting feature-set, including the lowest contrast ratio of all of the projectors tested.
