Making it into the sub $500 price category, Pioneer offers a very competitive unit in its DVR-A06P DVD writer, supplied with a single -R and -RW disc and an excellent software package.

Making it into the sub $500 price category, Pioneer offers a very competitive unit in its DVR-A06P DVD writer, supplied with a single -R and -RW disc and an excellent software package. This multi-format writer is priced similarly to the LG GSA-4040B, but that's where the similarities end, with the Pioneer streaking ahead to beat its competition in all bar one read test. Narrowly missing out on a Recommended award, the software package alone boosts the value of this package with inclusion of Ulead VideoStudio version 7SE, Nero 5 and DVD MovieFactory 2SE. Definitely worth consideration if you're tossing up between this and the LG.
