Sold as an OEM drive, the NEC ND-1300A lacks packaging, writable media or anything in the way of included software, yet rated quite well in our performance testing and comes in at a reasonable price of $400. As can be expected, its low feature score is a result of the fact that this is sold as a drive and not as a total burning package. Multi-formatted, it's capable of writing both +R/RW and -R/RW discs and while CD record speed is a mere 16x, it's able to read as a full 12x DVD-ROM. Great for the user with existing burning software and multi-format writing needs, this unit offers plenty of flexibility, although if you're on a budget, look to the Ricoh or BenQ.
