The i-Buddie’s biggest claim to fame in the notebook stakes is that it keeps its travel weight down by eschewing an in-built battery. The reasoning is that most notebooks are either used at home or the office, where they’re plugged into the mains, but aren’t powered up on the road much.
It’s a nice premise, but if you do find the need to have the notebook running on the road, you can buy a battery.
Aside from that, this notebook has everything you could expect from a notebook that costs a mere $1,599. It has a 1.2GHz Celeron, 128MB of SDRAM (8MB shared with the graphics) and a 20GB hard drive. This didn’t help it much in our performance benchmarks, but if you’re after a dependable, no-frills notebook and your budget doesn’t quite stretch far enough to the other models, then this would be a good purchase for you.
