The Notino 3400S is the second cheapest notebook in this roundup. Unfortunately, it's outdone on almost every other front by the opposition.
The 3400S's most significant shortcoming is under the hood. Its Celeron 1.7GHz CPU coupled with only 128MB of RAM (some of which is used by the graphics chipset) occasionally struggles to run Windows XP, especially when on battery power. With twice the RAM this could have been a reasonable contender.
The notebook's interface is fairly decent however, with a good touchpad and soft pliable keys. While it lacks a floppy drive, it does manage to outdo some of the most expensive notebooks here with its excellent DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive.
If you absolutely must have a notebook for under two grand, the 3400S can be considered an adequate choice, but you're better off stretching for a slightly better featured model.
