This well-priced mini cam fits snugly in the palm of your hand and like any good entry-level camera can even be used by a child. It's just a matter of pointing and shooting which gets points in our books for a consumer camera.
It offers nine different shooting modes, so there is plenty of opportunity to set the camera for just about anything, however, on standard auto the results can be a bit grainy in low light conditions.
In fact, the DS65 performed the worst of the cameras in night mode with video becoming very jerky and lacking focus, however, in normal lighting the image was clean and crisp.
The image stabiliser worked well and the 2.5-inch LCD was easy to see in all but bright conditions.
Sound recording is excellent, with the in-built microphone providing good, clear audio, however, still photo recording, like a number of the other cameras suffered from being too low resolution (640 x 480).
While Panasonic offered more digital effects than anyone, it was let down by the poor USB transfer of video and still images to PC.
The overall finish of the camera was good, with the design looking smart and compact.
