Well kitted out with a vast array of accessories, Philips' offering to the MP3 marketplace is the EXP213 CD MP3 player.
A large clear display with centrally radiating buttons is the control point, making for easy usage. Despite the decent size of the LCD, it appears unable to display names of the tracks by reading ID3 tags, which means you'll need to create subfolders to be read from consecutively, or manually number the tracks to reflect play list preference.
Track seeking in random mode is fickle, at times selecting ahead of time and moving straight into the next track, other times stopping for a few seconds and grinding away at the CD. Bass control offers three settings, significantly pumping bass in the earphones.
The EXP213 only caters to audio CD and MP3 CD and not firmware upgrades, ruling out ASF, WMA and OGG formats.
The EXP213 is not ideal for someone seeking better rounded file support or upgradeability, but as an entry level unit it should find a home in the low-end pricing electronic marketplace.
