IRiver's multi-codec CD player has all the necessary traits required of a high-end personal audio centre. Arriving with a bundle of goodies, the iMP-400 is a stylish unit, with an interesting burgundy and chrome finish. A pleasant surprise was the inclusion of a 4.5V power supply, which is perfect for deskbound usage, or topping up your two rechargeable 'gumstick' Ni-MH batteries.
The player supports burnt media up to 800MB and also has excellent audio support for MP3, WMA, ASF and conventional audio CD, as well as upgradable firmware for other formats.
The iMP-400 has a brightly backlit and easy to read display remote control that's is great to operate. It also features a host of customisable options and the screen displays plenty of info.
Weighing in a tad shy of 265 grams, it isn't the smallest MP3 player form-factor wise, but is a welcome redesign of the previous i350 model. Offering fantastic quality reproduction of high-fidelity audio, sweet highs, solid mid-ranges and deep punchy bass, the iMP-400 is a terrific, fully featured MP3 player.
