Hi-Grade's new performance-oriented notebook is equipped with a 3.06GHz desktop P4, 60GB HDD, and a gigabyte of RAM. The Ultinote 6600DH displays Hi-Grade's typically first-rate build quality, with solid casing and a good quality TFT screen.
Although its performance suffered a little due to our test sample's use of beta drivers, it was typically on par with the 2.8GHz Dell Inspiron – we expect the retail version to perform even better with finalised drivers.
And if all this isn't enough, Hi-Grade has also included a Toshiba DVD-RW to boot.
The 6600DH has one significant shortcoming however: very short battery life. With such high-end components, especially the 3GHz desktop processor, this is no huge surprise. Yet it's still alarming that the 6600DH we tested only managed 59 minutes in MobileMark's standard battery test. We expect the final retail model to have some driver optimisations that should increase this, but even an extra 30 minutes seems short given that most other desktop P4 notebooks manage 150 minutes.
If what you're after is a powerful desktop replacement, then the 6600DH is not that bad a choice.
