The Creative PC-CAM 850 is a 2-megapixel digital camera geared to double up as a Webcam and a camcorder. Priced at a low $279, it hosts an impressive 16MB of built-in memory, writes to both MMC and SD card media and also has S-Video output.
The PC-CAM 850 can provide 1,600 x 1,200 images without interpolation, and can store over 100 images in low 800 x 600 resolution.
It offers video recording capability at 640 x 480, although is limited when going portable. One main feature is that it can also record and capture as a regular Webcam.
A notable feature of the PC-CAM 850 is the S-Video output, which will let you display images or preview video on TV. It also offers a 10-second timer delay, but forgoes even red-eye reduction, a feature that is offered in every other camera in our round-up.
Weighing a wonderfully light 100g, it does tend to look like a toy. It is however, well priced for a product that effectively acts as an entry level digital camera, a Webcam and a basic camcorder to boot.
