When it came time to tally up the scores for all of the 15in monitors, the BenQ FP591 was either at or near the top of every category. It was one of the first 15-inchers we tested, and it was immediately apparent this would be the one monitor the others would be held up against.
It has a stylish design with plenty of decent features (SRS speakers and DVI as well as D-Sub connections), but its main strength is its video quality. The FP591 is one of the few 16ms TFT screens reviewed and although it had average colour qualities its brightness and contrast were top notch.
While detailing and vibrant colours are important, effective brightness and contrast cannot be underestimated - and the BenQ was a benchmark screen.
These two features along with the 16ms response time make the FP591 ideal for gaming or watching movies, and it would also be perfect with a PC TV tuner.
As a screen for detailed work or scads of small text it's not the best as there are others here that are sharper, but it's more than adequate for general business use. It was actually quite similar to the NEC MultiSync LCD1560VM in the tests, and although they were closely matched in quality and price, the BenQ FP591 edged it out in terms of style and mass appeal. Also, at $899, the FP591 isn't one of the most expensive screens here on review.
