"S10-3 is a great machine, a bit let down by the touchpad, still very satisfied."
Posted by Fatcat6678 on 25 May 2010
Pros: Lenovo does not impose any "white list" on the installation of mini PCI-e modem card, so I can use any brand I choose to install. The Sierra MC8781 was purchased by mail order from mainland China for only HK$250 (about A$37).
The machine is light, very handy to carry because the new battery layout makes a perfect handle grip but not obstrusive as the S10-2.
It runs fast under Win 7 and significantly better than the N270 machines.
Cons: The touchpad, as mentioned by many, is a bit difficult to use and sometimes send the cursor to somewhere else. I have to use a Bluetooth mouse to make things easier.
The power switch on the left can easily be touched accidentally and send it to shut-off mode. I have to reconfigure the function of the power key so that it only turns off after 4-second pressing.
I purchased mine in Hong Kong about a month ago. It comes with the usual stuff like Atom N470, 1G RAM, 250G HD, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth, Webcam, 6-cell battery and Win 7 starter. Since Lenovo allows users to have access to some user upgradable components, I upgraded myself by purchasing a 2G DDR2 667 RAM, added a Sierra MC8781 3G modem card with GPS, and a Bluetooth mouse. All set up within one hour and I am using it happily on two trips already. The battery can last somewhere between 5-7 hours, which is more than sufficient for my use.
The display is above average for a 10-inch, though with only 1028 X 600 resolution. It makes reading easier.
The add-on 3G modem card has excellent function and quick (depends on network). Apart from data transfer, it further functions as a mobile phone for voice calls, and takes care of SMS messaging like using Outlook Express.
The GPS is very sensitive and accurate, I can log on 7 satellites in about 5 minutes on first try. It automatically interface to Google Maps on your location and navigation. You can change to other map software if you like.
The additional RAM is a must and worth its dollar, especially if you have some video viewing or Flash programmes.
I must say that I am very satisfied and willing to recommend to anyone considering buying it.
