NVIDIAs tweaked GeForce4 MX440 graphics card runs faster than the original MX440, and includes AGP 8X support to boot but it may prove to be too little too late in the face of new competition.
MSIs G4MX440-VTD8X comes packed with heaps of genuinely useful extras, such as DVI out, TV input and output, and some excellent games including Morrowind and Ghost Recon.
Still, the card is effectively a tweaked-up version of the GeForce4 MX chipset. Although the increased clock speed certainly gives it an advantage over its predecessor (the new card was typically around 5-10% faster in our benchmarks) it still cant compete with ATIs RADEON 9000 when it comes to high-end 3D power and features. Moreover, while AGP 8X might certainly be useful in the future, there are currently no games that can take full advantage of the extra bandwidth with a chip like this.
This is a shame, because the software bundle that comes with the VTD8X is almost worth the sticker price on its own.
If youre looking for a graphics card on the cheap, youre best off forgetting the GeForce4 MX line and going with a RADEON 9000 instead.
