The WAITEC Clipp represents an interesting fusion of technology, and has the distinction of being the first portable MP3 player that also doubles as a 4x CD writer. Unlike other CD-based MP3 players the Clipp keeps itself to a reasonably compact size by only supporting the small 8cm discs instead of the full size 12cm variety. This limits capacity to 185MB, as opposed to the 650MB or 700MB available to 12cm discs, but this is still enough to hold 50 or so MP3 or WMA tracks. You can also use the Clipp just like a portable USB burner for data as the 8cm CDs can be read by most conventional PC CD-ROM drives.
The interface to the Clipp is through a small LCD display, which shows just about all the relevant information, although the image quality isnt great. The rechargeable Lithium Ion battery supposedly delivers six hours of playback, yet I only managed to get around two to three hours.
The Clipp is an innovative device with plenty of applications although its build quality is not superb. The high price also makes it only suitable to those who wish to use all its features as a burner, since there are cheaper and better MP3-only players on the market.
