If all you want is a simple Web page generator, then a template-based, wizard-driven Web designer such as Web Easy Millennium is all you need. Web Easy installs straight out of the box and includes all the essentials for creating attractive Web pages. The package ships with over 90 professionally designed templates, which you can easily populate with your own information, graphics and sounds. For the more creative types, you can start with one of several blank templates and customise it according to your tastes.
Web Easy provides seamless integration with most digital cameras and TWAIN scanners. Simply import pictures, then size, crop and publish them to your Web page. Once the basic page is created, customise it by modifying colours or adding shapes, text, sounds and graphics. Every time you select a tool, a hints box appears, providing useful instructions. Theres also excellent online help and interactive tutorials for more extensive training.
After the site has been designed, you can preview it in your default browser to see exactly how it will look on the Web. Once youre satisfied simply select the Build button and upload it to your ISP. Web Easy provides out-of-the-box support for popular ISPs. Australian ISP support is limited to Telstra BigPond, but the generic site uploader should work with most ISPs.
Unlike HTML editors, Web Easy requires absolutely no coding experience, as code is generated in the drag-and-drop editor screen. Code generation is reasonably efficient with the code rendering properly under most common browsers (Internet Explorer and Netscape), however we did find some anomalies under Netscape, such as sounds not playing. The Web Easy code generator makes extensive use of JavaScript, which means that pages can be served from almost any Web server (without having to install Active Server components). But it does mean that pages will not display properly under older browsers. Frames are not used, which means there is a good chance of pages printing properly.
Web Easy does not include any code editor or ability to manage individual sites at the file level and it also lacks any site management tools.
Searching is limited to finding specific text or graphic file names only and, without a site map, is very difficult to use since you do not always know where you are on the site! But hey, for under a hundred dollars, I'm not about to complain.
