Joining the current popularity of book titles on all things Internet is The Internet Companion: The EASY Australian Guide. Both authors have been writing about computers for several years.
Regular readers of PC Authority its more likely you are fortunate to be part of society that is very comfortable with using personal computers and the Internet as an everyday part of your life. However, you can also probably easily name an acquaintance who is not nearly as comfortable as you are with the world of computers, technology or the Internet. Its quite possible they have never seen a Web page or used email. With the right advice and a little bit of confidence, these people would probably love to delve into the emerging world of the Internet. They just need to know how to get started.
The Internet Companion is ideal for those who have never experienced the Internet before and need a how-to-get-started guide. The authors assume the reader has no prior computer experience and the opening chapter commences with some basic computer skills instruction. From here the reader is guided through selecting an ISP and setting up an account. The reader is then given a tour on Web surfing and the end of each chapter is accompanied by a set of exercises designed to give the reader experience on what they have just read. For those wanting to get started in the world of the net, this book is highly recommended.
