Overall:

Strangely shaped like a chocolate bar, LG's Chocolate BL40 can't compete with other, more sophisticated smartphones

LG's much-advertised widescreen phone is certainly unusual. Its display boasts a broad 2.3:1 aspect ratio, a high resolution of 800 x 345, and it looks stunning.

But despite this, and a feature set as long as your arm - which includes an excellent 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, face and smile detection and image stabilisation - it isn't the most practical phone.

Battery life is as short as a dragonfly's lifecycle - use it in anger, and you'll need to charge it once per day.

Possibly even twice. What's more, widescreen doesn't suit web browsing, and stability and responsiveness is a problem. It's available on a more reasonable tariff than an iPhone, but we still wouldn't buy one.
