A fantastic device for mixing on the move, although the high price means it’s only for the serious DJ

Computer DJing has come on in leaps and bounds in the past few years, but even the latest MP3-based decks aren't exactly portable. The Tonium Pacemaker takes computer DJing to the next level.

Load your music onto it using Tonium's mixing software, and you'll be able to mix tracks with almost as much control as if you were on the decks themselves, selecting tracks by BPM, slowing and speeding them up to keep them in sync and even applying special effects. Oddly, though, you can't scratch tracks.

It's all controlled via the Pacemaker's circular touchpad, which you can tap, swipe or apply circular motions to in order to navigate, or access the various mixing functions.

A second 3.5mm line-out port also lets you use the device semi-seriously, monitoring your mix on the headphones, while the line-out stays on one track or the other.

A touch-sensitive crossfader lets you control the line and headphone outputs; you simply use the Shift key to switch between the two.

It's a fantastic device, and with a bit of practice you'll be cueing up tracks like a pro.
