Samsungs Graphix Pro Series hosts its 19in and 21in monitor range, including this months entry: the SyncMaster 955DF. Theres little to distinguish it from the others, apart from a curved blue strip along the top that adds style to the vanilla-beige monopoly on CRT monitors.
Our DisplayMate test screens highlighted an overall average result with a particular low point in the geometry and distortion category. While there is a noticeable pincushion and horizontal curvature, the biggest flaw compared to the others is a high amount of warping during screen regulation tests. This is undoubtedly due to the relatively low video bandwidth of 185MHz compared to the average bandwidth of approximately 220MHz.
In contrast, the 955DF produced a reasonably sharp image, but icons and text were slightly blurred in general use. Good colour reproduction and an absence of streaking make up for the relatively poor geometry and distortion results. It features a low 75Hz refresh at the recommended 1,280 x 1,024 resolution, which not only affects quality, but may deter those used to the now standard 85Hz.
The 955DFs quality results sits in the middle of the pack, but the distinguishing feature is the low price.
