Fujifilm has two very solid entries this month, both of which sit at the consumer entry-level of the market. Of the two cameras, the FinePix 30i is definitely the more pocket-sized device, and possesses quite a cute and funky style that the Labs team agrees has a feminine kind of appeal.
It comes packed with a 2-megapixel CCD aided by an excellent 1.8in LCD display and optical viewfinder. The simple menu can be navigated by the thin but accessible four-way button arrangement at the top right of the back of the camera. A simple switch will change modes between taking photos, image playback and recording short AVI movies or sound.
Quality results saw the FinePix 30i sitting nicely in the middle of the pack, with accurate colour representation and excellent contrast for a 2 megapixel camera. It also provides three different resolutions, from 640 x 480 to 1,600 x 1,200 and three levels of compression that vary image quality, and the number of images on the excellent 16MB SmartMedia memory supplied.
Not only does the FinePix 30i take reasonable images, it also doubles as an MP3 player, making it a fun camera to use at any time. At a relatively inexpensive price, the FinePix 30i is feature packed.
