In our last graphics card Labs, the Hercules Dynamite TNT2/Ultra proved to be head and shoulders above the competition in terms of 3D gaming performance, and the 3D Prophet II GTS 64Mb follows on from that tradition in glorious form. The 3D Prophet is a class act all the way from its funky blue PCB through to its thorough installation manual and support for both DVI and video output.
To say that the 3D Prophet blew its competition out of the water in the benchmarks is not a small understatement. Only in the low resolution Quake III test did the 3D Prophet not come top of the charts, and in this test it is the CPU that is the limiting factor for the majority of cards. At high resolutions and colour depths, the 3D Prophet is unbeatable, although the alpha driver ATI Radeon comes close. With the recent release of the GeForce2 GTS, Voodoo5 and ATI Radeon, there will not be much new in the graphics world for some time to come, meaning the 3D Prophet could well continue to be the performance yardstick against which all new cards will be measured for quite some time.
There is not much more we can say about the 3D Prophet other than, if you are serious about your 3D performance, and if you can afford it, then buy it.
