The funky colours, combined with clever cable tidys and a comfortable ergonomic design – including non-stick grips to hold your laptop in place – make this a very useful gadget for anyone who uses their actual lap as a location to rest their laptop, and it fits even 17in laptops with ease.
Yes, I hear you ask, but is it any good? To find out, we compared it against a Belkin cooler costing $38. Both cooled our sizzling laptop by around 10 degrees – the Belkin managed a slightly slower fan speed when the temperature was held constant, and a slightly lower temperature when the fan speed was held constant. The Coolermaster is about 5dB quieter on low speed, and as noisy as the single-speed Belkin on high speed. All in all, that makes its performance okay, but not brilliant.
