I've been tossing up between the HTC Touch Pro and the X1 for a couple of weeks now, and had more or less settled on the X1 based on its specs and a quick play with one at a Telstra shop... until I read your article.

3 stars seems like a harsh assessment given the HTC Touch Pro (with a 5 star rating) has virtually the same form factor, OS, processor and similar price; lower resolution and no headphone jack. Is the sluggishness of the SonyEricsson interface really painful enough to justify choosing the HTC instead? I seem to remember concerns about the sluggishness of the HTC when it was first reviewed too.

(note: I'm not a fanboy, just wanna spend $1000 on the right phone!)

The HTC Magic, available through Vodafone and Three in Australia, may be the second Android phone but it's the first worth considering.

Sumptuous design, a fantastic screen and a high-quality feel. Not as easy to use as an iPhone, but far more powerful
