Overall:

For A clever concept; good picture with great sound; easy-to-use considering its complex nature

Against Some picture noise; won't stream Apple Lossless files or high bit-rate MP3s; DR+ hard drive and Freesat tuner are cost options

The most flexible TV we've tested - from its built-in network media player to optional hard-disk recorder, this is a sleek, stylish solution.

Loewe products excude class in a way few rivals can better. So, as you might expect, the Connect is no ordinary 37in LCD. It's a Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080p, and it'll show 24 frames per second (24fps). So far, this set is up with the spec leaders in the market.

Once you've added the options of a 160GB drive built-in, plus the ability to shows photos and home videos via a USB input, then you're already looking at one of the best-featured TVs on the market.

Built-in network media player
However, what really makes this Loewe special is the built-in network media player. Connect this set - wired or wirelessly - to a home network, and it can access photos, music files and video from your computer or any other networked source. So, what we have here is not just a TV, but a complete home-entertainment hub.

Performance-wise, the Connect 37 puts on a good show. It has decent broadcast TV reception with fine stability and rich, though not overblown colours. The results are even better with DVD and Blu-ray, where the Loewe's crisp definition, strong contrast and deep black rendition come to the fore. Sound quality is excellent, too, with decent weight and refinement.

When you consider this set's excellent functionality and build, the five-grand price tag starts to look reasonable. There is also a Media DRPlus version for $6499. You could probably get a 37in set from the likes of Panasonic and add the Connect 37's extra functionality by grafting on extra boxes, but the result would never be as elegant.

Want to see the TV of the future? The Connect 37 is a good place to start.
