LG’s dual-format drive is ideal for those who invested in HD-DVD before Blu-ray romped to victory in the HD wars.
The external drive will read both of the previously competing formats, as well as writing to Blu-ray at an industry-leading 6x speed. Older formats are no problem, either, and the drive will also write to blank DVD and CD media.
The drive itself may be a lumbering piece of kit, as is often the case when cramming a full-sized drive into an enclosure, but at least it’s attractive. The glossy black-and-white colour scheme is smart, with great design touches like the chrome touch-sensitive eject button.
The only issue is the price – both of the drive and the media – although early adoption never was cheap.
