EDITOR'S NOTE

This week's news was dominated by the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone in Australia. The hotly anticipated successor to the Galaxy S II launched yesterday across all carriers - and is also available to buy outright. Get all the details here, including pricing info and our hands-on first impressions.

The other important release of the week was Microsoft's Windows 8 Release Preview, which is available to download now. According to Microsoft's website, the Windows 8 Release Preview "focuses on people and apps" and gives you "powerful new ways to use social technologies to connect with the people who are important to you". Hmm.

In other news, Kogan unveiled a 10in Ice Cream Sandwich Android tablet for just $179, an eBay seller sold a first-generation iPad prototype for $10,200 and Optus snagged approval for its $800m NBN deal. We also review the Intel Core i5-3470 Ivy Bridge CPU and ask why LTE phones don't come with quad-core on the side.

Plus: Check out the latest tech deals, iOS and Android apps, free downloads, unboxing galleries and product reviews from the past seven days. Happy reading!
