An LG TU550 phone has miraculously survived the ravaging flames of a Queensland brush fire. Retrieved by its owner Jeffrey Schmidt, the model was fully expected to be a lifeless chunk of carbon.

Mr Schmidt is a farmer who was burning off his sugar cane field when his phone slipped out of his top pocket, directly into the blazing fire. His son discovered the phone soon afterwards, the clamshell half open, with the display light still illuminated. The pair were amazed to find that the phone still worked, allowing calls to be made “with perfect reception".
In the photo gallery on the following pages, you can see that the casing has suffered some melting and distortion, the clamshell no longer closes properly, but the internal electronics have survived. This is especially extraordinary given that this model is not particularly designed to be ruggedised against harsh impacts, or the elements.
LG Electronics has supplied Mr Schmidt with a replacement TU 550.
See the following pages for the burned images of the phone.
