by Ed Dawson  on Oct 30, 2007
3 Mobile announces their new mobile phone and mobile VoIP service, the 3 Skypephone in Australia.
3 Mobile has announced their new mobile phone and mobile VoIP service, the 3 Skypephone in Australia. The exclusive deal will allow users to make free Skype to Skype calls and send free instant messages to other Skype application users on PCs or mobile devices.

The phone was developed in partnership with Qualcomm, integrating the Skype application into their BREW mobile platform’s elements, to allow address book compatibility.
The phone features a large Skype button which switches to the popular VoIP application and allows them to reach their contacts who are currently online, in voice or text mode.

The phone comes bundled with 4,000 minutes of Skype to Skype calls and 10,000 ‘Skype chat’ instant messages each month.

“People like using Skype and enjoying free calls on their PC, so why not set Skype free on the mobile and in a way that’s really easy to use,” said Nigel Dews, 3’s CEO.

The Skypephone will be available in Australia “before Christmas 2007”, according to 3 Mobile. The model is available in white with “sky blue” trim, black or white with a hot pink trim.
