Lako Pacific announce availability of their Neuros OSD unit, allowing YouTube viewing on a TV set.
Lako Pacific and Neuros have today announced a November 2007 launch of their new PVR (Personal Video Recorder) device, the Neuros OSD.
OSD stands for Open Source Device, and the Neuros looks to be a set-top box which streams content from a networked PC, also allowing access to Internet video streams and YouTube. The device capabilities seem to bear similarities with the Apple TV, which in itself does not contain a TV tuner, rather, leverages stored PC content and Internet streams.
With an Open Source basis, the potential for the developer community to make grand extensions to the Neuros OSD could be huge. Of course, this requires that a lot of people use the platform, so it’s too early to say whether this element of the product will take off.
