Wii outsells PS3 by six to one in Japan.
Nintendo's Wii console outsold Sony's PlayStation 3 by a factor of six to one in Japan during June.

Research from Japanese publisher Enterbrain show that, despite doubts from analysts, the Wii continues to go from strength to strength, outselling the PS3 by four to one in April and five to one in May.

Enterbrain reported that Nintendo sold 270,974 Wii consoles in Japan in June, while Sony sold 41,628 PS3s and Microsoft sold 17,616 Xbox 360s.

Nintendo claims to have sold 5.84 million Wii machines worldwide in the five months following its release in November, including 2.37 million in the Americas and two million in Japan.

Sony said that it has shipped 5.5 million PS3s in the fiscal year to March 2007.

Sony Computer Entertainment Australia has countered the Enterbrain figures with reports that the PS3 has been the number-one selling next-gen console in Australia since its launch, outselling the Wii and the Xbox 360 almost every week.

Some analysts predict that Wii sales could slow later in the year following the release of high profile games like Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
