Intel introduced three quad-core processors yesterday, including the first to carry the firm's Core 2 Quad processor brand name.
The Intel Core 2 Quad packs two dual-core chips in every component. The move means that the chip vendor now offers nine quad-core processor versions in the desktop and enterprise market segments.
Intel also introduced the Quad-Core Xeon 3200 series for single-socket servers. Built on the Intel Core micro-architecture, the products are available with clock speeds of 2.4GHz and 2.13GHz with a 1066MHz front side bus and 8MB of L2 cache.
Intel president and chief executive Paul Otellini described the chips as "bringing two Quad-core technology for anyone's PC".
The Intel Core 2 Quad processor Q6600 (2.4GHz) has been announced and is currently being demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The Q6600 is available now at $1090 in quantities of 1,000. Quad-Core Xeon processor pricing includes the X3220 (2.4GHz) at $1090 and the Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor X3210 (2.13GHz) at $885.
