Content could be available within a year, says chief exec.
YouTube is planning to extend the video sharing service to mobile devices.
Chief executive and co-founder Chad Hurley reportedly said that the company plans to have a service in place for mobile devices within a year.
The announcement came as part of a keynote address at the OgilvyOne Digital Summit, an advertising industry shindig held in New York.
YouTube To Go, launched in May, already allows users to upload video content to the YouTube site through mobile devices.
The service could further expand the reach of YouTube, which is already the largest video sharing site on the internet and serves over 100 million videos a day.
Hurley's statement comes on the same day that Google announced the launch of its mobile Gmail service.
Google agreed to purchase YouTube for US$1.65bn in stock in October. The deal is expected to close later this year.
