Networking giant ready to offer on-demand content services.
Cisco Systems has finalised its acquisition of Arroyo Video Solutions, potentially allowing the firm to offer on-demand content services to a variety of devices, including PCs and mobile phones.
"The Arroyo acquisition will be part of our service provider offering for anybody from AT &T to Comcast. It would allow them to create more on-demand offerings," Cisco spokesman Ron Piovesan told vnunet.com.
The finalisation of the deal comes hot on the heels of Apple's unveiling of a movie download service through its updated iTunes store. The Cisco offering could make it easier for iTunes contenders to launch similar services.
"It does not have to be video, it could be on-demand audio. We can look for new services coming from cable or telecoms service providers," said Piovesan.
