Asus announced overnight three very stylish new laptop devices. Taking aim firmly at similar devices from Apple and Microsoft, the new Asus offerings are slim, elegant, and very, very light.
The ZenBook 3 UX390UA weighs a mere 910gm and is only 11.9mm thick, encased in aluminium alloy that keeps it as rugged as it is stylish. It boasts a 12.5in full HD display with a 178-degree viewing angle, a 7th Gen Core i processor, and 8GB of high-speed, low-power RAM. Storage is handled by a 512GB SSD.
The laptop's cooling system is particularly impressive. The ZenBook 3's internal fan is only 3mm thick, and made from a liquid-crystal polymer to keep the blades strong. And if that seems amazingly thin, the heat pipes that channel warm air away are only 1mm thick.
The chiclet keyboard features gold backlighting to go with the ZenBook's golden highlights, and large touchpad also has a finger-print reader for added biometric security. For entertainment, the ZenBook 3 also has quad Harmon Kardon speakers. Connectivity is via 802.11ac wi-fi, Bluetooth 4.1, and a single USB 3.1 Type C port, as well as an audio jack.
The ZenBook 3 is available in rose gold and royal blue, and retails from $2699.
Asus also released the Surface-alike Transformer 3 Pro T303, with a Core i7 processor, 16GB of high-speed RAM, and a 512GB SSD. The tablet - complete with kick-stand and detachable keyboard - features a 3K display, fast-charge batteries, and retails from $1699.
The ZenBook Flip UX360UA is an ultra-light device built around a versatile 360-degree hinge that lets you use it as a laptop, a tablet, or as a viewing stand. The Flip is powered by a Core i7 or i5 processor, boasts 12 hours of battery life, and weighs just 1.3kg and is only 13.9mm thick. THe ZenBook Flip retails from $1699.
