If rumours out of the US prove accurate then the Microsoft Surface RT tablet won't just be slimmer and lighter than the iPad – it'll also be even cheaper, with the price of US$200 being bandied around.
The price comes from an Engadget article via an Inside Source and if it's true then it puts the Surface Windows RT in direct competition with the smaller-and-cheaper tablet brigade such as the Google Nexus 7 and Amazon's Kindle Fire.
That means a 10.6in screen at 1366x768 resolution, and a Tegra 3 quad-core chip, the WIndows 8 RT OS and the much lauded keyboard case... all for US$200. Excuse us for editorialising, but in the immortal words of Darryl Kerrigan, tell 'em they're dreaming. Of course, even given that US$200 is about $190 Aussie dollars at the moment, the Australia Tech Tax might well push that up into more believable areas - say $379 or more?
