Wargaming’s ‘World of’ franchise really is becoming quite the juggernaut. World of Tanks is record-holding game that’s continuing to go from strength to strength, and it’s helped pioneer free to play gaming. There are two more games coming, the in-beta World of Warplanes, and the remarkably cool-looking World of Battleships.
On top of that, Wargaming recently announced it had bought gaming middleware company, Big World. The Australian-based outfit has been working with Wargaming on its massively multiplayer games from the outset, and now, with the $45 million acquisition, the company will become an even more important part of Wargaming’s future plans for apparent world domination.
However, in news that’s probably a bit closer to home for World of Tanks fans, the trailer for the upcoming 8.0 patch has just been released, and... Wow. The game’s about to get a make-over that turns the prettiness dial all the way up to 11!
"We've been working hard on implementing new physics for the game for quite some time," said Sergey Burkatovsky, Lead Producer for World of Tanks, said in a release. "This update is a huge milestone for the team. The improvements and enhancements will really change the way players experience World of Tanks."
The new, enhanced rendering engine not only improves game performance, but introduces impressive water and wave effects, and a mess of other engine boosts. The game will look prettier than ever. Also to be introduced – and there’s only a few hints of this in the current trailer – are new, far more realistic physics for the tanks themselves, making your tank manuevering more effective – and impressive to look at!
