If you're paying attention, you know I'm utterly in love with ARMA II mod, DayZ. I'm not alone, either - there's a reason that ARMA II is currently one of the top-selling games on Steam. However, it's mod days are approaching an end...
The mod's creator's have announced the game is going to become an official, standalone title, published by ARMA maker Bohemia Interactive. It's a mod-team's dream come true.
"Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so," lead dev Dean Hall announced on the DayZ dev tumbler. "The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price."
There'll be more news soon on the new official DayZ site.
I cannot overstate how cool this news is; and it's a really great illustration of the power and importance of modding in the PC community. Bravo to all concerned.
