iPhone 5 September release date confirmed by Sharp president

It's (almost) official – the iPhone 5 will ship in August, says the boss of the company that's making the smartphone's display

iPhone 5 rumours are rife this week, with a story of a September 12th release just a few days ago – and now we have the most solid evidence yet to support that date.

Sharp president Takashi Okuda announced at the company's annual earnings report that Sharp is one of the screen manufacturers for the iPhone 5 – and that the phone will be shipping from August. Taking into account international shipping times, that September 12th release date feels more solid than ever.

We’re expecting a 4in display, new 8 pin dock connector, and iOS 6 – any of that likely to have you queuing in front of the Apple store?
