Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and everyone was mandated to own a Nokia 3310 a custom phone case was a way of pledging your allegiance to a sporting team, TV show, car brand or just a way of showing your commitment to fashion.
These days phone cases tend toward the more practical, adding structural stability, screen protection or increased battery life. In fact, with most smartphones having such an emphasis on physical design, the idea of a fashion case has seemed a little pointless to us. Until now, that is.
Carved is a company based out of Indiana in the US who create handmade real wood cases for iPhone 4S, iPad 2, Kindle and Kindle Fire devices. Options include walnut, mahogany, padauk, cherry wood and more. Because each is handmade, each has its own grain and finish, making them all unique.
Carved also offer laser-etching, including customs jobs provided you can supply the chosen design as either a vector or bitmap image.
It’s just our opinion, but we reckon the wood finish gives the iPhone an “olde worlde” feel and it’s certainly been the skin that’s attracted the most attention from strangers and co-workers alike.
You can see the range at www.carved.com and the company does deliver overseas – just make sure you check customs information about the importation of wood products.
