Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead comics must be laughing all the way to the bank. Sure, he has to do the hard yards on writing new adventures for Rick and co in the ongoing comic series, but his creation has spawned a successful AMC TV series, a compelling Telltale Games-forged episodic game and now, apparently, another game, according to IGN.
This time around, though, juggernaut publisher Activision is at the reins with the not-so-cleverly named The Walking Dead Video Game (there may be a colon in there somewhere). Terminal Reality is the developer doing the ground work for Activision, and the game is set before the events of the comics/TV show (AMC has its name on the credits, too).
Players will jump into the ass wuppin’ boots of Daryl ‘Boondock Saint’ Dixon—a fan-favourite character from the show—as he attempts to make his way to the supposed safety of Atlanta with his redneck brother Merle. Resources will be scarce, and you’ll have to decide whether you sneak past, run around or take on the hordes of walking dead that are around every corner. The pitch makes it sound as though you can’t clear areas (or maybe that’s my hopes talking) and will have to pick your battles as ammunition is scarce.
You’ll also have to pick which characters you want to take with you as the living can be just as dangerous as the dead when it comes to supplies or protecting their own. Beyond this, details are scant, but you can check out the official website here. The Walking Dead is slated for release in 2013 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
I’m interested to hear more about a big-budget post-apocalyptic title that understands the idea of surviving in a world that’s overrun by zombies. Are you?
