Is the Kindle Fire 2 arriving in August?

Amazon's 7 inch tablet could be landing sooner than we expected – but does it hold a candle to the Google Nexus 7?

Although the Kindle Fire is yet set anything ablaze in Australian, it seems Amazon is already preparing to fire up the much-rumoured Kindle Fire 2.

At least, that's according to a report from China Times, which claims that Amazon has already ordered the production of 2 million tablets, set for a late July/early August launch. However, as the Google Nexus 7 tablet gets ready to claim the "budget Android tablet" top spot, our question is: what can the Kindle Fire 2 bring to the table?

Amazon's new 7in Android tablet will allegedly sport a metal frame around its screen, with LG supplying the screen and will hit shelves at the same US$200 price point as its predecessor.

With the Kindle Fire 2 and Google Nexus 7 hitting in the next few months – and persistent rumours of a 7in iPad Mini coming later in the year, it looks like 2012 is set to be the year of the mini-tablet. That is, if the Kindle Fire 2 ever makes it to our shores.
