Live-action trailers are apparently the flavour of the month, what with Darksiders II’s recent Last Sermon video that included Game of Thrones thespian James Cosmos, and the Total War: Rome II announcement came with a live-action trailer, too. Hell, even Halo 4 had a short Forward Unto Dawn teaser, recently.
Fast-forward to today, and it’s seemingly the turn of Assassin’s Creed III to throw some marketing dollars at a live-action rendition of the universe of the upcoming title. It’s a wee bit serious, and the ‘Rise’ motif instantly brings The Dark Knight Rises—a not-so-tiny film that’s releasing in a couple of weeks—to mind, while the emotive backing track is none other than the John Carter trailer version of My Body Is A Cage by Peter Gabriel.
These live-action trailers of late are actually comparable to the whole Dead Island emotive CGI trailer in that they don’t really show anything to do with gameplay as much as they set tone. Then again, in the instance of Assassin’s Creed III, there has been plenty of gameplay footage shown to date, so I guess they can get away with it without copping too much hate.
Aare you a fan of this live-action trailer fad that’s trending at the moment?
