Left 4 Dead 2 ‘Cold Stream’ DLC official release offers “surprises”

Time to dust off that SteamAppID file again.

It was only the other week that I was revisiting the comfortably familiar zombie-slaying wiles of Left 4 Dead 2 on Xbox 360. And while convenience dictated the necessity of console play, it was somehow a whole lot less neutered experience in terms of that all-important immersive violence factor. But what hadn’t changed was that perfected fun formula, which made me miss Left 4 Dead all over again.

If Overkill Software is working on dreaded Valve Time, it may be a while before we see or hear anything of the upcoming crossover between Left 4 Dead and Payday: The Heist but, according to the official Left 4 Dead blog, some new Left 4 Dead 2 material is set to be released later this month.

Well, newish Left 4 Dead 2 material.

The main purpose of the blog post is to announce that Xbox 360 fans are set to have access to the DLC consisting of the entire original Left 4 Dead campaign and a new Cold Stream section, too, on the 24th of July. And while there’s no word on whether they’ll be able to bypass the usual Microsoft requirement of charging for DLC on the 360, Valve is promising some new and unexpected facets for the official release on PC—happening on the same date—which is great considering you’ve probably already played the hell out of Cold Stream in unreleased form.

“There are some other surprises and details we will give you later but for now we just want to confirm an often requested feature. With the update going out at the same time (also for the PC), all of the mutations will be available at all times. This will allow players to choose to match into games playing Taannkk!, Gib Fest, or even a user created mutation like Confogl.”

Is that enough motivation for you to reinstall Left 4 Dead 2?
