Nintendo reveals new 3DS XL with bigger screen

Nintendo reveals new 3DS XL with bigger screen

Ninty is catering for the needs of screen fetishists with a revamped eye-pleasing 3DS model

If you're constantly squinting at the dinky screen on Nintendo's 3DS, Nintendo has come up with a fix – it's taken the wraps off the Nintendo 3DS XL, a super-sized version of the 3DS.

The 3DS XL features a larger 4.88in top screen and a smaller 4.18in bottom screen – a decent upgrade from the standard 3DS' dual 3.02in displays.

Fans of HD gaming will be disappointed by the top panel's 240x800 resolution however, and coupled with the lower screen which runs at 240x320, the PlayStation Vita's 5in 960x544 OLED display will look rather tempting.

In what seems like a glaring omission, Nintendo has decided not to put a second thumbstick on the 3DS XL – despite having created the Slide Pad to add a second stick to the original 3DS.

The 3DS XL will arrive packing a 4GB SD card and measures in at a tad thicker than its XL-less predecessor at 22mm. It will be available in the US on August 19th for US$200.

Stay tuned for Australian release and pricing information as and when we get it.
