It wasn’t so long ago that we were reporting the news that Unreal Engine 4 is looking rather sexy. While we only had access to still shots, a surprising contender for the next-gen game-engine crown has entered the race: Square Enix.
Square showed off its Luminous Engine at E3 in glorious video form, with the intention of powering, at the very least, the next generation of Final Fantasy games. According to VG247, Square Enix head honcho Yoichi Wada isn’t interested in selling the engine to anyone outside of the Square of trust, though. The first title using Luminous could go into production as early as the end of this year.
The video is reportedly running in real-time, and the demoer even went so far as tweaking certain visual components during a replay to prove that the footage wasn’t pre-rendered. The Final Fantasy-themed video, Agni’s Philosophy, sure has plenty of eye candy. Check it out and let us know what you think in the comments section below.
