Sony has introduced its new compact camera flagship, the Cyber-shot DSC-RX100, which packs the power of an impressive 1in 20.2 million pixel CMOS sensor – four times the size of sensors found in most other compacts.
The extra sensor size means shots taken with the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 will have more detail, with better results in low light. There's also an f/1.8 lens along with the ability to shoot 1080p video at an impressive 60fps.
A new technology dubbed WhiteMagic is also on the cards for the RX100's 3in LCD screen, which promises to add white pixels into the mix for improved outdoor visibility.
A full manual mode, Carl Zeiss lens with 3.6x optical zoom and a solid full-body aluminium design round off this premium compact's spec sheet rather nicely, though it's US$650 price tag may be a little too hard to swallow for some, given its compact cam status.
The Sony RX100 is slated to be released in late July/early August, so stay tuned for more specific pricing and release date information, as and when we get it.
