Let’s face facts: outside of Batman and Superman, DC’s hero line-up is a whole lot of meh. Sure, you may know about Wonder Woman, The Flash and Green Lantern, but the chances are good that you can rattle off enough decent Marvel heroes to the point where you may have to take off your shoes to continue the tally. Regardless of Marvel vs DC debates, head-to-head fighting games within a particular franchise universe are still something to get excited about. After all, what better way to prove that your favourite character is the best of the best than by using them to school another player in the delicate art of The Foot Fist Way.
It doesn’t seem so long ago that Warner Bros. was trying to mix Mortal Kombat’s brutality with the DC Universe roster in a resultant head-to-head fighting game that was okay but not amazing. Now reports and, more importantly, video/screenshot evidence of a similar-but-better merger have been unveiled. Instead of pitting the two franchises against each other, though, Warner Bros. has enlisted the development skills of NetherRealm Studios that has cut its teeth on acclaimed Mortal Kombat titles in the last couple of years. NetherRealm’s pitch is a DC Universe fighting game with a Mortal Kombat feel; albeit sans extreme violence. The result is Injustice: Gods Among Us—the compelling title that is strangely absent of any direct reference to the DC Universe. I have a feeling that will change before this game hits shelves.
We’ve got a look at the reveal trailer, some gameplay intercut with an E3 interview (thanks G4) and a bunch of high-res screenshots that are well worth a gander.
What two DC characters would you like to see punch it out in Injustice: Gods Among Us?
